Romance Writers of America is a non-profit organization for those interested in writing Romance fiction. Our purpose is to promote excellence in Romance fiction; to support and encourage our unpublished members in their efforts to become published; and to support, encourage, and promote the works and careers of our members published in Romance fiction.

 

OK-RWA meets monthly in the Oklahoma City area. At our meetings we share news about our writing and the latest happenings in the publishing world, and we have a program focused on one of the many aspects of writing Romance novels.

January:

Speaker: Malena Lott

Topic: Media Star 101

Author and writer/producer/director Malena Lott will share the ins and outs of video production for the aspiring and published author in  Media Star 101. The 45 minute session will take writers through the  tips and tricks and checklists writers, producers, directors, and  editors use in creating videos for the web. You'll be able to use the  information to better work with professionals or to create videos on  your own.

Malena Lott has written, directed and produced more than fifty TV commercials and videos over the years and uses YouTube to promote Book End Babes, a national book club she started in 2009 and to promote her novels.

Speaker: Jerry Benson of Redlands Fencing Center. Jerry teaches hand to hand combat in Modern Day Olympic Sport of Fencing, Historic combat from ancient to modern times. He is a certified stage choreographer and Fencing, Master of Arms.

Speaker: Romney Nesbitt

Topic: An Insiders View of the Courtroom for Writers

 

Time: 2:00-3:00 (business meeting starts at 1:00)

 

Romney Nesbitt, author of Secrets from a Creativity Coach, artist and former courtroom artist will share her courtroom drawings and behind the scenes insights from two of Oklahomas most infamous murder trials: the Sirloin Stockade murders and the Girl Scout murder trial. Nesbitt worked for Channel 5, KOCO TV in OKC and Channel 2 in Tulsa. After Q & A shell also do a quick pencil sketch of one of our members. Copies of her book will be for sale. Topic: Creative Writing Workshop

from Nathan's web site: Nathan Brown is a singer-songwriter, photographer, and award-winning poet. His mission is to take back poetry from the hard, academic grip of the ivory tower and the brooding, beret-sporting-village-types who all too often use poetry for personal therapy... both being good reasons audiences for poetry have run for the hills in the United States...Nathan holds an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Creative and Professional Writing from the University of Oklahoma. He currently teaches for the Human Relations and Liberal Studies departments at the University of Oklahoma...Nathan has published six books of poetry. My Sideways Heart, his most recent, is just out on Mongrel Empire Press. And his last book, Two Tables Over, won the 2009 Oklahoma Book Award in Poetry. The other four are: Not Exactly Job (a finalist for the Oklahoma Book Award); Ashes over the Southwest; Suffer the Little Voices (a finalist for the Oklahoma Book Award); and Hobson's Choice.
